Ingredients Required:
Thoor Dal 3/4 cup
Small Onion 15 to 20 or 1 big size onion
Tomato 2 small sizes
Tamarind little (soak in water for 30 mins and take tamarind juice)
Green Chilli 3
Turmeric powder 1/4 tspn
Asafoetida a pinch
Mustard seed 1/4 tspn
Salt
To Grind:
Coriander seeds 3 tspn
Red Chilli 3
Fenugreek seed 1/4 tspn
Chana dal 1 tspn
- Fry all the above items in a pan adding 2 to 3 drops of oil, till the raw smell goes. (Do not over fry them)
- Grind them in a mixie adding some water.
Procedure:
- Wash the thoor dal, pressure cook it and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. when mustard seeds starts to splutter, add onions, green chilli, pinch of asafoetida, turmeric powder and fry. when onion turns transparent add the tomatoes fry for 2 to 3 mins.
- Now add the fried onion and tomato to the thoor dal. Add 3 and half cups of water and the tamarind juice + salt and pressure cook it for one whistle.
- Now add the ground paste to it and boil the sambar for 2 to 3 mins.
- Garnish it with coriander leaves.
